Manage your mind or it will manage you. Your mind is like a computer that’s been infected with a negative bias ‘virus’. When a computer is infected by a virus it’s unable to deliver what you want it to do. Your mind is no different.

If your negative mind is in control you will find it very difficult to be successful with anything, especially something as challenging as building your own blogging business. 

In this post I’m going to give you three habits you can use to manage your mind for success

Your mind is programmed because of your negative thoughts which drive you towards failure rather than success, if you leave it to its own devices.

When this happens, it impacts all your outcomes and the reality you’re experiencing.

Whatever is going on in your life right now, it was created by your previous thoughts, decisions, and actions.

You create your own reality and are totally responsible for this.

 

 

why it’s difficult to change ‘what is’

Your current reality is what you’re experiencing right now. Most people don’t like their current situation.

It may be a 9-to-5 job, a business that’s not making enough money or anything else that defines your life as it is.

You also have a preferred reality, meaning a life you would rather have than the one you have now.

Your preferred reality might be one where you’re working successfully for yourself or you have a business that generates an abundance of money.

If you know what your preferred reality is how come you don’t just move there right now?

Because change is hard for all of us. By default, your mind does not support you to make change.

Your automatic response is to resist change. This is true for all of us.

Rather than change you will often choose to stay with what you’ve got, keeping you stuck. You stick with ‘sameness’ in your life even if it’s something you don’t want.

Effectively, what’s happening right now in your life, you created in the past, so you’re stuck in the past.

 

 

How Do You Get out of the Past?

To get out of the past you have to make a decision to do so, you have to know what to do and have the self-discipline to work on it until the change happens.

This requires developing habits that become your daily, hourly, and minute by minute practice.

You have to think above your own flawed thinking and also above the crowd in new and different ways. It’s challenging to do but it can be done once you have supporting habits in place.

 

3 Habits to Manage Your Mind

1. Visioning

Albert Einstein said, “Whatever you see on the screen of your mind is a preview of your life’s coming attractions.”  In other words, what you see in your mind and focus on, is what you get in reality.

The habit you must create is seeing your life in the future as you want it to be, and for this vision to dominate your thoughts. You have to practice focusing on what you want in the future rather than what you’ve got now.

Let me illustrate this with a totally different story:

A woman told me recently that she was desperate for it to rain where she was living.

I asked her why she wanted it to rain.

“It’s so dry and all my plants are dying.” she said.

“But you’ve just told me what you don’t want, not what you do want.” I explained.

She thought about it and then said, “I want it to pour with rain to soak the dry earth so my plants can grow and thrive”

She now had a vision of what she wanted, and she had also expressed it in words.

Do you see the subtle difference in responses?

Too often we are focused on and we express what we don’t want rather than what we do.

Have you ever said, “I knew that was going to happen. I could see it all along.”  That’s because without even knowing, you saw it in your mind beforehand. In effect you created it like that.

You create everything in your life via your mind. You bring your circumstances to you.

You have incredible visioning ability, but most human beings don’t use this ability very effectively.

Make a habit of continually asking yourself during the day,  What do I want?   Then practice answering the question with what you want rather than what you don’t.

Why do you want a successful blogging business?

Rather than saying, “Because I hate my job and I can’t wait to leave.”, say “I want to work for myself and manage my time as best suits me.”

There’s nothing complicated about this. It’s a matter of using your imagination and all your senses, including your emotions, to create a picture in your mind of what you want your life to be.

You must make your vision more powerful than your observation of your past, especially observing your perceived failures, and of what’s currently going on in your life.

The challenge lies in developing the habit. It’s easy to do and it’s also easy not to do. It takes practice and consistency.

Most people are far too easily distracted and not able to cultivate the awareness required to keep the vision of what they want more dominant in their minds.

No amount of reading about this is going to make it so. You have to do it.

 

2. Self Talk

You already talk to yourself even if you don’t do it out loud. This goes on all the time whether you’re aware of it or not.

The problem is your self-talk consists of about a 15-min tape which is often not positive. It continually loops through your mind repeating negative messages to you unconsciously.

Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage and all the men are merely the players.”

But you can also be the writer of your self-talk. You can consciously contribute to the script you keep on repeating.

If you don’t, your mind will continue to play the default negative playlist. When this occurs all you end up doing is reacting to events as they occur.

The good news is you don’t have to only be a player on the world stage reacting mercilessly to what happens to you.

You can also be the playwright of your life. You can create the habit of consciously programming your mind with different self talk.

Your default 15 min script is full of criticism, self-doubt, and self-judgment.

It goes something like this – “I’ll never get this right, I can’t do this, I don’t know how, I’m an idiot, Who do I think I am to be successful, I’ll never make money, online business opportunities are just scams, I’ve always been like this, It’s not my fault, This is the way I am.”

When it comes to procrastinating, your script is likely to include statements like, “I can’t do it now. I’ll do it tomorrow, I don’t feel like it, I’m too tired, I’ll do it another time.”

When you use these statements you see yourself as being unable to take action. What’s worse is you repeat these over and over.

How many times a day, a week, a month or year, do you think you repeat these messages to yourself?

It could be aout your business, going for a run, taking the trash out, walking the dog, writing a blog post and many other of your daily activities.

Is it any wonder your script starts to become such a default part of you, limiting your success?

Your thoughts become your beliefs since a belief is just a thought you keep on repeating.

But you can change these by simply starting to be kinder to yourself, telling yourself that you’re a good person, that you’re moving towards your goals with ease, that you’re learning as you go, that you’re intelligent and creative – basically by praising yourself rather than beating yourself up.

It sounds simple and easy to do but again it’s easy not to do. You have to make it a habit.

If you know you’re a procrastinator I want to give you one new statement that you can introduce into your life as a habit right now.

The statement of a procrastinator is basically “I’ll do it later.” or variations of this. See if you can catch yourself when this statement or thought comes up and substitute it with “I’m doing it now.”

Then take action within 5 seconds of saying it. Do this whenever you find yourself procrastinating. Slowly you’ll erode away at your procrastinator statements and thoughts.

It won’t happen overnight and it won’t happen every time. It starts with making a decision to do it and to practice so you get better. Start with simple things you know you procrastinate about, like taking the trash out.

Before you go to sleep at night think back over your day and see how many times you were able to interrupt your procrastination habit.

 

3. Alpha Mind Techniques

The third habit is to access your alpha state of mind regularly. This is the doorway to your subconscious mind.It can be reached through meditation, hypnosis and also exposing yourself to certain alpha mind inducing stimuli like certain pieces of music.

Your brain emits electrical impulses continuously and the frequency of these keeps changing depending on what activity you’re doing.

The alpha brainwave frequency is between 7 and 14 cycles per second. This is a level that’s between sleep and being awake.

Your functioning at this level is incredibly powerful, creative and intuitive. It allows you to connect with your subconscious and access the powers you have there.

When you can access this level effectively there is no resistance, which means the energy is pure and your thoughts will be able to create your new reality very effectively.

Even when you have the best training, tools and support, if your mind has not been programmed for success, you will find it challenging to be successful.

The extent to which you have to work on this is very personal and is dependent on the ‘bad habits’ you have unknowingly created over your lifetime.

A habit is a practice you do so regularly that it becomes second nature. When your habits are positive they support you; when they are negative they limit your success.

You can create good habits. All you have to do is make a decision to do so and then start practicing.
